Europe and Africa: toward the creation of a science policy dialogue
(source: CAAST-Net)
The European Union is working to decide whether the nature of its participation in the proposed policy dialogue between Africa and the EU will occur through the Science Forum on International Cooperation (consisting of senior officials from ministries of foreign affairs and science) or the European Competitive Council (composed of Europe’s ministers of science).
The African Ministerial Conference on Science and Technology (AMCOST) and a representative from Europe are expected to co-chair the policy dialogue, which will hold its meetings in Africa every two years.
This policy dialogue is likely to give greater exposure to top-quality research carried out in the African continent and to give greater impact to the initiatives and results achieved in this field, bringing the dialogue to a higher political level.
The proposed policy dialogue will be unveiled at the Heads of State Summit in Libya on November 29-30, 2010.
